Flour Writing Continued....

Yesterday I showed you the Flour Writing activity with my little boy. I mentioned that I have done this same task countless times with my older students from preschool through to Grade 3 and sometimes even older!

Today I thought I would share some examples of how you can do this same this task with older children. Stay tuned for the ways you can move from Flour Writing to more formal forms of writing in a Laugh and Learn kind of way!

Allowing younger students to simply explore with the flour is a great sensory experience.

Providing preschool students with individual letters of the alphabet is a great way to review letters being taught and is a great pre-writing experience! You can also do this to teach numbers or when getting them to practise writing their own name.

Although this one is hard to see, it is an example of my older students writing out their spelling words. Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of the ol' school pen to paper when practising spelling words as it promotes students to use so many necessary everyday skills but every now and then it is fun to change it up and add a bit of laughing and learning at the same time! This is such an engaging way to practise spelling - a task many students often dread.

Flour Writing!

Late this afternoon I was trying to hold my little man out from his nap, so I decided to whip out one of my classic school readiness activities Flour Writing. This is an activity I have done with my students for years from pre-school age all the way to Grade 3! Time and time again my students ask for it....the little ones practise their name and letter writing along with numbers while the slightly older students use it to write their out their spelling words.....such a simple but effective activity!

After watching yet another episode of Thomas I decided we needed to do something more engaging and thought why not give the Flour Writing a try with my little man?! Granted, he is only 17 months old so my expectations of what he would be able to do were going to be different to those of my students but in saying all that he exceeded my expectations and had a blast with this flour writing experience!

We experimented using a variety of different tools from paint brushes to shapes allowing for a more sensory experience. I must say, it took him a little while to warm up to this activity as he wasn't so sure about the flour at first! You can do this activity with many different elements including sand, salt, sugar, seeds and even shaving cream! You can some alternatives for this task on my Laugh and Learn 4 Kids Pinterest page!

Father's Day Ideas

With Father's Day only a couple of weeks away here in Australia, I thought it was time to get moving and get organised!

We have had a bit of a wet end to our season of Winter here and the rain and cold weather has meant that my little boy and I have been sick all week. So, in saying all that, it has been the perfect atmosphere to snuggle on the lounge with my precious boy and search some cute Father's Day craft ideas! Check out my Pinterest page to get some sweet ideas to do with your students or little ones!

I am the type of person who has always loved to do handmade crafty activities and now that I have my little man by my side it is even more fun! Sometimes I wonder who has more fun doing them him or me?! We recently celebrated my husbands birthday and made this cute fishing craft.....you can find my inspiration for this on my Laugh and Learn Pinterest page!

Keep posted to see what Father's Day craft I decide to do for this year as I have something a little different in mind....

Apologies for the crease on the left side of the picture, someone got a tad excited when giving it to his Papá!

Daffodil Day

This week in Australia we celebrated Daffodil Day - a day to raise money for the Cancer Council.

Each year, on this day, I do a daffodil craft with my students. Before making the craft activity we spend some time talking about the meaning of this day along with ways in which we can participate and raise money for this worthwhile cause.

This year I found a cute idea on Pinterest that I wanted to try....I even managed to give it a go with my own little boy, although being only one and a half his craft was slightly modified!

Welcome To My Blog!

Hi and welcome to my blog!

This has been something I have wanted to do for years but for many different reasons never got around to doing it. Today I have finally decided to take the leap and just dive in!

As a Catholic teacher I wanted to be able to make a difference in the lives of my students in both a fun and meaningful way while still being able to be a stay at home mamma when the time came. So, just before having my little boy I decided to take a step back from mainstream teaching and began my own tuition business.
I currently work from my home studio so that I can be a stay home mamma to my little boy....in my eyes I have the best of both worlds and am extremely blessed!

I hope you find some useful ideas and activities for your children or students and thanks for stopping by!
